Cast of Characters

If you're new to my blog, you may be feeling a little late to the party because you have no idea who these people are.  Please allow me to introduce my loved ones.

As pictured, Helen Kinzbach, aka The Meems, is my momma.  She chose to be called "Mimi" when my firstborn arrived.  That name stuck until our middle child went to Baylor University in Waco, Texas.  He and my mother have always been close.  While he was in Waco, she fed him many a homecooked meal and washed piles of his laundry.  As their relationship grew, he began to call her "Meems" or "The Meems," which she will now and forever be called.  We moved my little mother from Waco to Lubbock in 2010 so that we could take better care of her.  Having her near me has taught me so much about her and the impact she has had on my life.

We met Leonard not long after we moved Meems into a wonderful independent living facility here in Lubbock.  He moved to Lubbock from Baltimore to be near his daughter.  When she needed to take a job in another town, we began to give Leonard rides to church every Sunday.  Leonard and Meems are best friends.  He loves being her guardian angel.  She loves his attention.  When she moved from independent to assisted living, the kind people at her new facility "heard" me when I told them how much she was going to miss Leonard.  The two had eaten supper together for five years.  Very quickly, transportation was offered so that Leonard could come eat lunch with Meems every Monday and Friday.  I will be eternally grateful for that.  Through this journey, Leonard has become a part of our family.  Truth be told, everyone Leonard meets becomes a member of his family.  The more we learn about him, the more we love him.
